An Evening with Dr. Shirley Jackson Whitaker and Friends

An Evening with Dr. Shirley Jackson Whitaker and Friends

Thursday, Mar 24, 2022 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Location:
Bromer Gallery
607 Boylston Street
Boston, MA 02116

Dr. Shirley Jackson Whitaker’s artwork offers an incredible diversity of media and color and a vision of life that bridges past and present. Within that ambitious scope lies a central feeling of presence, of the persistence of Black culture in the United States; Dr. Whitaker defines the unspeakable—unspeakable joy and unspeakable tragedy—by embracing the visual. In doing so, she invites communities and individuals alike into discussion, reminiscence, and reflection. We, in turn, invite you to join us for a formal panel discussion of Dr. Whitaker’s work, to take place over Zoom on Thursday, March 24 at 6:00pm EST. The panelists will be Dr. Whitaker; Michael Kuch, proprietor of Double Elephant Press and the printer of Whitaker’s Ashes to Ashes; Dr. John Buchtel, Curator of Rare Books and Head of Special Collections at the Boston Athenaeum; and Dr. Barbara Krauthamer, Dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and Professor of History at UMass Amherst. Our own exhibit curator, Meredith Santaus, will moderate.

Register for the discussion here: https://us02web.zoom.us/.../tZMsc-2qrTgpGdK3tV4A-oyGtXTGl.... After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Please contact us if you have any questions about the panel discussion or the exhibition, and we look forward to seeing you on March 24!
