Item #31972 Séance for a Minyan. Michael Kuch.

Séance for a Minyan.

Northampton, MA: Double Elephant Press, 2011. Kuch, Michael. Folio. (16)ff. One of 70 copies, signed by the poet, Anthony Hecht, and the artist, Michael Kuch. For each of Hecht's ten poems, Kuch has contributed two intaglios, and has arranged the printing such that the trifold sheets unfurl to show the poem at the center of the two columnar images. Both Hecht's verses and Kuch's illustrations are deeply meditative and psychological, presenting a literary or visual icon to the reader and encouraging a sense of reverence, as might befit a minyan, the quorum of ten members (hence the ten poems) required for public worship under Jewish law. Bound in black cloth over boards in a trifold structure mimicking that of the pages. Paper label to first upper cover, which can be seen through the red acrylic window laid in to the uppermost board. Mint. Housed in slipcase. Item #31972
