Sakura: Five Poems, by Saigyo.
Poestenkill, NY: Edition Kaldewey, 2004. Kaldewey, Gunnar. Folio. (20)pp. One of thirty regular copies, with sheets held loose in gray cloth box. Signed by the artist at the colophon. Four inkjet color illustrations, printed on pink Chinese paper, blend images of cherry trees with the poems' original Japanese text. These plates unfold in a fashion reminiscent of hanging scrolls, extending past the tails of the pages, which themselves are made of cotton rag paper and on which are letterpress-printed the English translations. A meditative celebration of cherry blossoms and selfhood. Trace instances of foxing, else near fine. Box has silver titling. Item #31754
(Von Lucius, pp. 270-274).
