...By an Earthquake (A Visit in the House of David Ireland at 500 Capp Street), by John Ashbery.
Poestenkill, NY: Edition Kaldewey, 1994. Kaldewey, Gunnar. Six loose sheets on architect's vellum, plus two printed posters on onion skin paper, plus six original objects by David Ireland, plus several photos and Kodaliths of Ireland's work. One of forty-six copies. Signed by both Ashbery and Ireland. David Ireland had transformed the house at 500 Capp Street in San Francisco into a full-scale, idiosyncratic installation piece, replicating in domestic situ the leavings of the artist's mind. In this edition, Kaldewey has transposed the house into something both replicable and original. The chemises, which hold the loose sheets, are laid on wooden trays containing parts of 500 Capp's walls, as well as pieces of wallpaper, paint samples, and other found or altered objects. The specially cast handle on the box's lid bears the house's address. Fine. Prospectus laid in. Item #31585
(von Lucius, pp. 212-215).
