The Woods.

NY: 2006. Square octavo. Four-fold enclosure. Unique. Acrylic on textured boards with added wires, pompoms, and button snap closure. The folds reveal a gray-white woodland scene, blue at the edges, with a line from Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" painted on the bottom panel: "The woods are lovely dark and deep, but." The play between shimmering metallics, trace glitter, and black leafless trees remind the audience of the eeriness just beneath the surface of Frost's poem. Adding to the unsettled wintry view is the emptiness of the enclosure structure; the viewer must open the snap with some intention, but will only find bare and beautiful forest, belied by the enclosure's colorful exterior on which trees have leaves and a range of blues, reds, and greens dot the gold-painted flaps. Together with a wooden stand painted to resemble a checked vinyl floor. Fine. Item #30348
