Santa Barbara, CA: Simplemente Maria Press, 2017. Square quarto. One of twenty-five copies. Signed by the artist in various locations. Twelve sheets of handmade paper, plus two small octavo books, one with a suite of twelve prints and one with fourteen pages accordion fold. The sheets, of pigmented ivory or ultramarine blue, celebrate and expand the boundaries of the human form. Graphics are printed as watermarks on rectos, so that if lit from behind they glow as if electrified, and on versos are embellied in graphite or watercolor. The suite is introduced by a title page, an epigraph, and a description of the artist's process. The remaining sheets bear excerpts of Heebner's poem, Marmo. Each is best viewed when backlit, which the enclosed tripartite plexiglass easel facilitates.
The additional suite of watercolors, titled Schizzi, features prints of graphite and ink drawings from the series Rome Sketches. The other volume provides Heebner's Marmo in full, in both English and Italian and printed over blue-toned ink drawings on Asuka paper. The result is a sensual, humanized, and naturalistic exploration of marble and sculpture. All materials are housed in an anodized aluminum box adorned with a hand-carved marble relief sculpture by Anders Johnson of an open, blank book. Mint. Prospectus and artist's instructions for backlighting laid in. Item #30041
